On June 18, 2008, The President of Kosovo Republic, Mr. Fatmir Sejdiu has decreed the opening of the first nine Diplomatic Missions of Kosovo in the world at the level of embassy: The United States of America (the residency in Washington), The United Kingdom (the residency in London), The Kingdom of Belgium (the residency in Brussels) Republic of France (residency in Paris), Federal Republic of Germany (the residency in Berlin), Republic of Italy (the residency in Rome), Republic of Austria (the residency in Vienna), Swiss Confederation (the residency in Bern) and Republic of Albania (the residency in Tirane).
On July 3, 2008, The President of Kosovo Republic, Mr. Fatmir Sejdiu has decreed the opening of the Diplomatic Mission, at the level of embassy, in Republic of Turkey (the residency in Ankara).
On September 2, 2008, The President of Kosovo Republic, Mr. Fatmir Sejdiu has approved the proposal of Government list of nominees for the positions

Charge d’affairs ad interim, as follows:

  1. Washington – Mr. Avni Spahiu;
  2. London – Mr. Muhamet Hamiti ;
  3. Paris- Mr. Muhamedin Kallashi;
  4. Berlin- Mr. Vilson Mirdita;
  5. Rome- Mr. Albert Prenkaj;
  6. Brussels-Mr. Ilir Dugolli;
  7. Ankara-Mr. Bekim Sejdiu;
  8. Vienna-Mr. Sabri Kicmari;
  9. Bern- Mr. Naim Mala;
  10. Tirane- Mr. Gazmend Pula


The second round of the opening of embassies to be expected this year.
Based on Law 84, point 24 of the Constitution of Kosovo and the article 5, point 1 Law on Foreign Affairs Ministry and Diplomatic Service of Kosovo Republic, and after the consultation with the Prime Minister, President Sejdiu has decreed the establishment of Diplomatic Mission at embassy level in the following countries: Republic Of Slovenia, with residency in Ljubljana, Republic of Croatia, with residency in Zagreb, The Kingdom of Netherlands, with residency in Hague, The Kingdom of Sweden, with residency in Stockholm, Czech Republic, with residency in Prague, Republic of Hungary, with residency in Budapest, Republic of Bulgaria, with residency in Sofia, and Japan with residency in Tokyo.
