“Countries which have gone through conflicts can not join the EU without first normalising their relations. In this case Serbia should not join the EU without first recognizing Kosovo as an independent state”, President Ahtisari, former UN Envoy on Kosovo Status talks, told an audience of Balkans experts in Brussels.
President Ahtisari expressed his regret for the differences inside EU over Kosovo since 5 out of 27 EU members have not yet recognized Kosovo. “The EU countries which have not recognized Kosovo should bare responsibility for the obstacles in the process of EU expansion”, Ahtisari said in Brussels.
